The most recent evaluation of Nova Scotia’s longest running Wellness Court Program highlights how this collaborative, problem-solving approach is helping individuals address their mental health and serious substance use issues.

The Honourable Castor Williams, a retired Judge of the Provincial Court and the second person of African ancestry to be appointed to the Nova Scotia Judiciary, passed away on Wednesday evening. He was 81.

Two current Nova Scotia judges received new appointments today, filling some of the vacancies on the province’s superior Courts.

The Honourable Deborah K. Smith has been appointed the new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, only the second woman in the province’s history to achieve that position.
