Members of the media and the public are advised that the following proceeding before the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal will be livestreamed on the Courts of Nova Scotia website on Thursday, October 10, 2024:

CA-529885 – Halifax Regional Municipality v. Dalhousie University and Halifax University Neighbourhood Association, an unincorporated association represented by Peggy Walt and William Breckenridge (Respondents) and Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia (Intervenor).

The appellant, Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), appeals the Order of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia quashing the decision of HRM Council to register 1245 Edward Street, Halifax, as a municipal heritage property under the Heritage Property Act. 

The respondent, Dalhousie University, is the owner of the property and originally intended to demolish the structure. 

Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia, which has been granted Intervenor status in this matter, is aligned with the appellant on this appeal and its written and oral submissions are limited by Order.

This appeal hearing is scheduled for a full day, starting at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2024. This matter will be heard by a three-member panel comprised of Justice David Farrar, Justice Peter Bryson, and Justice Elizabeth Van den Eynden.
