The Provincial Court of Nova Scotia will host a robing ceremony in Sydney on Friday, June 12, 2026, to officially welcome the Honourable Judge Christa MacKinnon to the Bench.
Judge MacKinnon was appointed to the Provincial Court on February 13, 2026.
The ceremony will be livestreamed from the Sydney Courthouse starting at 12:30 p.m. on June 12. Attendance is by invitation. The public and media can watch online at https://www.courts.ns.ca/operations/webcasts. Archived video of the ceremony will be posted online following the event.

The Hon. Judge Christa MacKinnon
Prior to her appointment, Judge MacKinnon had been a practicing member of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society since 1999 and the Cape Breton Barristers’ Society since 2008. She began her career with Justice Canada, Tax Law Services, in Halifax. In 2008, she began working with the Public Prosecution Service as a Crown Attorney until she was appointed a federal prosecutor for cases in Sydney in 2023. Judge MacKinnon previously conducted court martial proceedings as a reservist with the Canadian Forces.
