The Honourable Justice Robert Gregan


Robert Gregan  has been appointed to the Nova Scotia Supreme Court, replacing Justice Clare MacLellan who has elected supernumerary status. Mr. Justice Gregan is a native of Chatham, New Brunswick,and received a Bachelor of Arts in 1987 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1990, both from the University of New Brunswick.

Prior to his appointment, Justice Gregan was Managing Lawyer and Senior Staff Counsel with Nova Scotia Legal Aid in Amherst. He practised with Legal Aid since his Bar admission in 1991, aside from several years as an associate with Creighton and Shatford and for a time with the law firm of Hicks, Lemoine.

Elected to Council of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society in 2013 and re-elected for the 2015-17 Council term, he was a member of the Society’s Complaints Investigation Committee and the Working Group on Entity Regulation sub-committee. Justice Gregan was also a member of the Nova Scotia Criminal Lawyers’ Association and served as Secretary for the Canadian Prison Law Association from 2011 until his appointment.

Justice Gregan’s community work included serving as a Volunteer Facilitator for the Parent Information Program, Department of Justice, and as a past board member for the Cumberland YMCA. He spent six years on the board for the Cumberland Community Alternatives Society, also serving as President for that restorative justice organization.
